The city of Novograd-Volynsky on the river. Sluch is located between Zhitomir and Rivne, on the E-40 (M-06) "Kiev - Chop" highway. It was first mentioned in the Ipatiev Chronicle in 1257 as the Drevlyan city of Zvyagel (Vzvyagel, Vozvyagel), destroyed by Prince Danila Galitsky (the ancient settlement of Zvyagel was preserved 5 km north of the present city center). Later it belonged to Lithuania, Poland, Russia. Remains of the foundation and walls of the castle, founded in 1507 by Prince Konstantin Ostrog on the then eastern border of Volyn, have survived. In 1648 the castle was seized by the Cossack troops of M. Krivonos, turning Zvyagel into a stronghold of the liberation struggle in Volyn. Lesya Ukrainka Literary Memorial Museum

The Lesia Ukrainka Literary Memorial Museum in Novohrad-Volynskyi was established in a small house where the future poetess was born in 1871. A simple one-story house of a burgher Okruzhka was rented in 1870 by the Kosach family: the chairman of the Congress of Justices of the Peace P. Kosach and his wife Olga, who is known by the literary pseudonym Olena Pchilka. Little Larissa spent the first two years of her life here, after which the family moved. The interior of Lesya Ukrainka's parents' house has been restored, the atmosphere of the child's room and father's office has been restored, and relics of the Kosach family, including Lesya Ukrainka's personal belongings, are presented in other rooms. The transitional gallery leads to the neighboring house (former economic), where a literary-memorial exposition is unfolded. A bust of Lesya Ukrainka is installed in the yard.

The house-museum of the Kosach family was opened in 1999 in the reconstructed Zavadsky house, where Lesya Ukrainka's literary family lived for 6 years. The exposition is based on the lifetime publications of Olena Pchilka (mother of Lesya Ukrainka), M. Drahomanov (uncle of Lesya Ukrainka), Lesya Ukrainka herself. There is also a music school on site.

The Museum of Local Lore of Novohrad-Volynskyi was established on the basis of the Museum of Military Glory, which has been operating since 1975. A separate section is devoted to the history of ancient Zviahel in the XIII-XVIII centuries. The museum has a rich collection of written documents and ancient books. The basis of the numismatic collection are Roman coins, money of the Cossack era, royal coins. The ethnographic department presents a collection of towels, embroideries, household items of the Polissya region. In the future, it is planned to move the exposition to the premises of the former prison (XIX century; 52 Voli Street).
