Mykolaiv

The industrial city of Nikolaev is located 30 km south of Lviv. It has been known since 1570, when the Polish king Sigismund II Augustus granted the nobleman N. Tarl the right to found a city here and call it by his own name. In 1820, the surrounding lands were bought by the Polish Count S. Skarbek. During the First World War, a line of Austrian field fortifications passed near Nikolaev, covering the road to the Carpathians (an observation post was preserved). The industrial landscape of the city is now formed by the tall pipes of the Nikolaev cement plant (Lafarge). In the vicinity of Nikolaev, you can visit the Priima grotto, where a settlement of Neanderthals was discovered.

Промислове місто Миколаїв розташоване в 30 км на південь від Львова. Відоме з 1570 року, коли польський король Сигізмунд II Август надав шляхтичу М. Тарлу право заснувати тут місто й назвати його своїм ім'ям. В 1820 році навколишні землі купив польський граф С. Скарбек. Під час Першої світової війни поряд з Миколаєвом пройшла лінія австрійських полевих укріплень, що прикривали дорогу на Карпати (зберігся спостережний пункт). Індустріальний пейзаж міста зараз формують високі труби Миколаївського цементного заводу (Lafarge). В околицях Миколаєва можна відвідати грот "Прийма", де виявлено поселення неандертальців.
