Attractions of Izmail district

The author's historical and local lore museum was established by the artist Olexander Sharonov in 2002. The museum is located in the center of Vylkovo. The exhibition is based on 54 paintings by the artist, as well as icons, household items of Old Believers and other peoples living in Bessarabia (anti, Goths, Greeks, Scythians, Romans, Turks, etc.). The museum exhibits weapons from the Transdanubian Sich, the Russo-Turkish Wars, and World War II.

The Small Mosque is the oldest architectural monument of Izmail (XVI century), one of the few examples in Ukraine of medieval classical Ottoman architecture of its heyday. The mosque is located near the Turkish fortress of Ishmael, taken in 1790 by Russian troops and the Black Sea Cossacks under the command of O. Suvorov. A museum with a diorama "Assault on the Izmail Fortress" created by artists E. Danilevsky and V. Sibirsky was opened in the mosque. The 20x8 m canvas depicts the decisive moment of the storming of the fortress.

Izmail Art Gallery presents a collection of contemporary Ukrainian and Russian art, an exhibition of decorative and applied arts, sections of Ukrainian, Russian and Western European art of the XVI-XIX centuries, works of icon painting, art of the peoples of the East. Painting, graphics, sculpture are presented. The portrait of Generalissimo O. Suvorov by an unknown master of the XIX century, engravings with portraits of G. Potemkin, K. Vorontsov, F. Tolstoy, graphic sheets of artists-travelers I. Shishkin, I. Repin, V. Makovsky are exhibited. The painting "Bay" by the famous mariner R. Sudkovsky is presented. Among the pearls of the museum collection is a vase by the famous French master E. Halle.

The Izmail Historical Museum of O. Suvorov is located in a mansion of the XIX century, which belonged to the mayor I. Abraham. It was he who first raised the issue of perpetuating the memory of O. Suvorov in the city and erecting a monument to him at a meeting of the Communal Council. The museum's collection includes more than 30,000 exhibits: flags, military uniforms and equipment of the XVII-XX centuries, a collection of cold steel and firearms, paintings and graphics on the Russian-Turkish wars, archeology and everyday life, numismatics. The diorama in the Little Mosque is a department of the Izmail Historical Museum.
