Palace of Count Xido (Khmilnyk Historical Museum)

Castle / fortress , Palace / manor , Architecture , Museum / gallery

The palace of Count K. Xido, who served as Adjutant General Stessel, was built in 1913-15 by architect I. Fomin on the basis of a Lithuanian defensive castle of the 16th century. The octagonal fortress tower (1534), which served as the minaret of the mosque during the Turkish rule, has been preserved since Lithuanian times, as well as fragments of fortifications that give the palace a medieval look from the river, from the stone bridge across the Southern Bug. architect I. Fomin). A striking contrast is created by the grand facade, made in the Renaissance style and decorated with a colonnade. Until recently, the hotel housed a hotel, now the building is in disrepair. In 1976, a local history enthusiast opened a public museum in the Turkish Tower.
