Monastyryshche

The ancient city of Monastyryshche is located 50 km north-west of Uman, between the Odessa highway and the Uman-Vinnitsa road. Known since the 16th century. as a fortified town of Bratslav Voivodeship within the Commonwealth. Belonged to the Vishnevetsky, Tarlam, Lyantskoronsky, Podossky. In 1648 the insurgent detachments led by M. Krivonos drove the Polish gentry out of the city. Until now, one can trace the ramparts of fortifications, where in 1653 the 4-thousandth Cossack detachment of Bohun defeated the 15-thousandth Polish army of S. Chernetsky. The park of the estate of the noblemen Kalm-Podossky (XIX century) with a cascade of lakes and islands has been preserved.
