Historic city on the river Dniester between Ivano-Frankivsk and Rohatyn, the former capital of the Galicia-Volyn principality. Halych was first mentioned in chronicles in 898. The historical center was located in the region of the present village. Krylos, and on the territory of modern Halych there was a pier and trade and craft rows. Above the pier already in the XII century. the citadel was erected. Its importance increased in the 14th century. after the capital of Halicia was moved to Holm, then to Lvov, and the lands of Halicia and Volyn were transferred to Poland. In the XIV century. In a small house in the center of Halych, a museum of the history and culture of the Karaite people - a small ethnic group, the origin of which is the subject of long-standing scientific controversy. Probably a small group of Karaites moved to Halych from the Crimea in the thirteenth century. Reliable information about the Karaite colony in Galicia belongs to the sixteenth century. The exposition of the museum acquaints visitors with the religious and cultural traditions of the Karaites, social and everyday life of the Karaite society of Halych.
