Mountain Carpathian village Verkhovyna on the river. Black Cheremosh has long been considered the center and the informal capital of the Hutsul region. Until 1962 the village was called Zhabiye. It was first mentioned in 1424. From 1772 it was a part of Austria, it was one of the centers of the national liberation struggle. Currently, Verkhovyna is a health-improving and ski resort (located at an altitude of 620 m). There are 2 drag lifts in operation. Due to its isolation from civilization, many ancient customs and crafts have been preserved here. There are many private museums of folk life and rituals .

Cheese-museum "Hata-staya" was opened in 2014. The "staya" is a traditional element of the Polonyn estate of Hutsul shepherds, where budz cheese is made from sheep's milk. The real century-old Hutsul house was moved by the owners from a remote village. The oldest part of the building is a room with an oven, where embroidered shirts and towels, dishes (plates, jars), carpets, etc. are collected. Here the hosts prepare meals in the oven. The second room "Hutsul room" is intended for master classes and tastings. But first, visitors are invited to take part in the process of making budza in a "staya", where a bowl of milk is placed over an open hearth. This is followed by a tasting. Here you can also learn to cook Hutsul dishes or take a weaving lesson.

The Hutsulshchyna Regional History and Local Lore Museum in Verkhovyna was opened in 1938 with the active support of the public and political figure, ethnographer-folklorist and original writer P. Shekeryk-Donikov. Household items, clothes, paintings, etc. are presented. Workshops are held, during which you can observe the process of making Hutsul carpets.

The Museum of Hutsul Life and Art "At the Trembitar" was opened at home in Verkhovyna by Hutsul musician Mykola Ilyuk, the leader of the ensemble "Hutsuls". Ilyuk's house is located on a hill in the village of Shveykove. The exposition presents traditional Hutsul costumes, household items and more than a hundred folk musical instruments. The host conducts tours, telling about the origins of the Hutsuls, their life and crafts, rituals and traditions. He plays most of the presented musical instruments. Offers visitors master classes in the famous Hutsul trembita, drumba, cymbals, bagpipes.

The Museum of Hutsul Magic is located in one of the recreation complexes on the outskirts of Verkhovyna, which is considered the informal capital of the Hutsul region. Its purpose is to preserve the memory of famous Carpathian healers and seers, who are called molfars here. The museum presents things that were used by molfar magicians and that tell about ancient Hutsul magic. On the basis of the museum there are also master classes on making original teaspoons from wood, spinning threads from wool, mirror calligraphy.
Museum of the film Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors

The house-museum of the film "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" in the Verkhovyna settlement of Glyph was opened in 2000 in the house where in 1963-64. lived during the filming of the film director S. Parajanov. Visitors can watch a film here and learn about the history of the painting. There are the following exhibitions: life and work of famous people, ethnography and life, historical and architectural heritage.
