The village of Heroeskoe is located on the banks of the Dnieper estuary, at the base of the Kinburn spit , near the salt lakes, which in the old days the Zaporozhye Cossacks called Prognoy. The same name was assigned to the settlement, which was founded in 1735, when, after the formation of the New Sich, a Cossack guard post was created here to protect the Zaporozhye salt mines, which laid the foundation for the Prognoyskaya palanca on the Kinburn Spit. A stone Cossack cross of 1769 has been preserved at the village cemetery. The main occupation of the inhabitants was fishing and the extraction of salt, which was supplied from here to Zaporozhye.
