The Taras Shevchenko Literary Memorial House-Museum covers the Kyiv period of the poet's life. It is located in the house of official I. Zhytnytsky, built in 1835 on the former Goat Swamp (now Independence Square). The poet lived here from the spring of 1846 until his arrest on April 5, 1847. The Kobzar Museum was established in 1928, now a branch of the Shevchenko National Museum. The stock collection consists of unique values: Shevchenko's memorial items, his etchings, autographs, photographs, the poet's first works. Watercolors by M. Sazhin, unique engravings of landscapes of Kyiv, photos of the XIX century, works of outstanding artists on Shevchenko's theme, works of decorative and applied art are presented.
