The National Museum "Chornobyl" is a multifunctional historical and cultural institution that preserves and tells the story of the nuclear accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in 1986 as the most severe radioecological catastrophe of the twentieth century. The museum was opened in 1992 at the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the historic building of the Fire Tower of the early XX century, which originally housed the Podolsk Fire Department, and later the Kyiv Regional Fire Department, which coordinated the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident.
