The village of Degtyarevka is located 15 km south-west of Novgorod-Seversky, not far from the Desna bank. It was first mentioned in 1673. The Intercession Church was built in 1708-10. at the expense of Hetman I. Mazepa. Here, in 1708, the first meeting of Hetman Mazepa and the Swedish king Charles XII took place, at which a decision was made to create a collision against the Moscow Tsar Peter I (a memorial sign was installed).
