Orlovets village is located between Gorodishche and Smela. Known since the 17th century. After the region was annexed to the Russian Empire, the village of Orlovets was in the possession of Prince G. Potemkin. The next owners were Princess Yusupova, Count Pototsky, Counts Mnisheki. The count's estate has not survived. In 1834 a sugar factory was built. The wooden Nicholas Church, founded in 1779 by the Zaporozhye Cossack K. Polov and rebuilt in 1876-86, has survived.
