Stryi

The city of Stryi is a large transit regional center on the M-06 ("E-50") Kiev-Chop highway, between Lvov and Uzhgorod. Stryi has been known since the 14th century and developed intensively due to its location at the crossroads of important trade routes. In 1431 the city received the Magdeburg Law. There was a large defensive castle (demolished during the Austrian period). The main attraction is the church-sanctuary of the Nativity of the Mother of God (XIV-XIX centuries). Buildings from the 19th century have been preserved in the central part. An outstanding Ukrainian politician, leader of the OUN S. Buildings from the 19th century have been preserved in the central part. An outstanding Ukrainian politician, leader of the OUN S. Bandera spent his childhood here (a monument was erected, a museum was opened). The fate of many other fighters for Ukrainian independence is associated with the city. For this reason, Stryi is sometimes called the "capital of Ukrainian nationalism." The memory of the victims of Soviet repressions is protected by the memorial "Fighters for the Freedom of Ukraine", opened in 2005 on the territory of the prison where political prisoners were kept.

Тут провів дитинство видатний український політичний діяч, лідер ОУН С. Бандера (встановлений пам'ятник, відкрито музей). З містом пов'язані долі багатьох інших борців за українську незалежність.
