Small village Ruchaevka above the river. Tomakovka is located 10 km east of Zaporozhye. Founded in 1883 as the German colony of Shengorst (or Shengorka), which is part of the Khortitskaya volost. The reason was the decree of Empress Catherine II on the settlement of the southern territories, and, in particular, the permission for foreigners to settle on any land with the provision of large land plots to them on preferential terms. The main population of the colony was made up of Mennonite Germans (followers of the radical movement in Protestantism). Agriculture here was distinguished by the use of advanced technologies.
