The village of Belovodsk on the river. Derkul is a regional center 50 km east of Starobelsk, 90 km north of Luhansk. It arose in 1686. The name is associated with the color of the local springs flowing down the chalk ravines. The first inhabitants were the Cossacks of the Ostrogozhsky regiment of Sloboda Ukraine and fugitive peasants. After the Bulavinsky uprising, in which local residents took part, the punitive detachment of Prince V. Dolgoruky in 1708 destroyed and burned Belovodsk. Soon it was revived, and from 1779 to 1860 it even had the status of a city. The flourishing is associated with the founding of a nearby Derkul stud farm .
