The village of Markopol on the r. Grabarka is located 30 km south of Brody. Founded in 1628 by the Polish magnate J. Sobieski and named after his son Mark. In the XVII century. there was the Markopol castle, from which only the ramparts remained. The town of Markopol enjoyed the right of self-government; there was a town hall here. In 1892-96. the stone church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built.
Село Маркопіль на річці Грабарка розташоване в 30 км на південь від Бродів. Засноване в 1628 році польським магнатом Я. Собеським і назване на честь його сина Марка. В XVII ст. існував Маркопольский замок, від якого залишилися тільки вали. Містечко Маркопіль користувалося правом самоврядування, тут була ратуша. В 1892-96 рр. побудована кам'яна церква Різдва Пресвятої Богородиці.

The local history museum of the village of Markopil is located in the premises of the Markopil secondary school. Since 1998 he has been working on a voluntary basis. The museum exposition is divided into the periods "Ancient History", "Markopil Castle", "Markopil during the World Wars", "School Education of Markopol". The museum has about 1,000 exhibits.
