The village of Gushchintsy on the r. Southern Bug is located 15 km west of Kalinovka. The name probably comes from the word "thick", as the settlement was located in dense thickets on the banks of the river. Before the Mongol-Tatar invasion, the settlement of White Stone with a fortified castle was located here (the ramparts of the ancient settlement were preserved in the Zamchisko district). The current village of Gushchintsy was first mentioned in 1468, when the Kiev prince Semyon Olelkovich presented it to his Zhytomyr governor Skipor for his service.
