Novyi Zahoriv

The village of Novy Zagorov on the river. Svinoreyke is located 10 km south of Lokachey. It has been known since 1567 as a settlement at the Zagorovsky Orthodox Monastery, probably founded in the 15th century. Later the monastery became Catholic. In the XVIII century. a new neo-baroque church was built, which has survived to this day in ruins. In 1943, a battle took place here between an UPA detachment and units of German troops, during which 44 rebels opposed several hundred Germans for 2.5 days. 12 rebels managed to escape from the encirclement, 2 more wounded were rescued by local residents. In 2003, at the walls of the Zagorovsky Monastery, a monument was erected to the Fighters for an Independent Cathedral Ukraine, on the stone slabs of which the names of the dead UPA fighters were ...
