Liadova

A village on the high left bank of the Dniester, at the confluence of the river. Lyadova, on the border with Moldova. The name, possibly, comes from the Old Slavic word "lyado", i.e. uncultivated land. The upper parts of the steep slopes of the Dniester valley are composed of chalk rocks, in which two rows of large grottoes have been formed as a result of erosion. In the XI century. the first rocky Christian monastery in the region was created in the caves. According to legend, this was the first monastery founded by St. Anthony of the Caves, who was returning home from Athos. The village was first mentioned in 1388 in connection with the activities of the monastery.
