The historic town of Bratslav on the right bank of the river. The Southern Bug is located between Nemyriv and Tulchin. Founded in the XIV century, it was first mentioned in connection with the defeat of the Tatar troops by the Lithuanian army of Prince Olgerd in 1362. On the site of ancient fortifications, Prince F. Koriatovich (Koryatovich) built the Bratslav castle (not preserved). At different times the castle was owned by D. Koribut and F. Ostrozhsky. In 1552, the castle was taken and destroyed by the Crimean Khan Devlet Giray, but soon the stronghold was rebuilt by order of the Polish king Sigismund II Augustus, and in 1569 the city received the Magdeburg Law, briefly becoming the center of the Bratslav Voivodeship.
