Місто Бахчисарай - колишня столиця Кримського ханства, резиденція ханів з XVI по XVIII ст. За легендою, засноване ханом Менглі-Гіреєм в 2 км від колишньої столиці Салачик, будівництво палацу завершено при Сахіб гирєє. Назва перекладається як "оточений садами палац". Протягом двох століть був центром політичного, духовного й культурного життя держави кримських татар.
