The village of Chechelnik on the river Savranke is a 70 km southeast of Tulchin, 100 km southwest of Uman. For the first time Chechelnik was mentioned in 1635 as a place owned by the Ukrainian Cossack family of Chechels, although a guard post at this place existed a century earlier. In 1795, Chechelnik was renamed Olgopol, it became the center of the Olgopolsky district, but soon the town was returned to its former name, and the neighboring Rogozka-Chechelnitskaya became the center of the Olgopolsky district. In 1797 Chechelnik, along with other settlements in the Podolsk province, was granted by Emperor Paul I to Field Marshal I.
