The village of Novye Sanzhary is a located on the river Vorskla, 30 km from Poltava in the direction of Kremenchug. According to legend, it arose in 1243 on the site of the Tatar wintering in the tract, which the Tatars called Saint-Charov. Since 1636 Sanzhary has been mentioned as a Cossack town within the Poltava regiment. Probably, Novye Sanzhary was founded later by people from the first settlement, which is now called Starye Sanzhary. In 1760, the hetman of the Left Bank Ukraine K. Razumovsky gave the village to Count G. Vorontsov. In 1923, Novye Sanzhary received the status of a regional center. The Medical Center of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine operates on the basis of the Novosanzharsky Mineral Spring.
