The village of Sontsivka is located 50 km west of Donetsk. Founded in 1785 as the estate of Sontsivka on the lands donated by Empress Catherine II to the governor of Kursoka A. Sontsov. His son Orlovsky governor P. Sontsov in 1840 built a single-altar Peter and Paul Church in Sontsovka, which has survived to our time. At the end. XIX century. agronomist S. Prokofiev was the manager of the Sontsov estate, in whose family in 1891 his son Sergei, the future composer, was born. Here he spent his childhood (a monument is erected, a museum is open).

The world's only museum of composer Sergei Prokofiev was opened in the village of Sontsivka, where he was born in 1891. The exposition is located in the building of the former village school, where the composer's mother, M. Prokofiev, who later took over the school, taught. In the three halls of the museum are presented the personal belongings of the composer, his works, a fragment of the interior of his parents. The memorial zone dedicated to the life and work of the composer also includes a magnificent concert hall for 120 seats, a monument to Sergei Prokofiev by sculptor V.
