Liman is a large city and a railway junction between Bakhmut and Izyum, near Slavyansk. It was founded in 1667 by the Cossacks of the Izyum regiment as a military settlement of Liman at watchtowers near the Trask fortress (present-day Slavyansk). Development began after 1911, when a railway was laid near the city and a station was built. From 1925 to 2016 the city was called Krasny Liman. Nearby there is a large recreational area - the Shchurovskaya recreation area, where more than 60 tourist centers are located, as well as the Blue Lakes on the site of the quarries of the former silicate brick factory.
