A village on the r. Mzha between Zmiev and Merefa. The settlement of Sokolov was founded in 1660. On March 8, 1943, in the battles for the defense of the village against the Nazi troops, the 1st battalion of the Czechoslovak army of Colonel Ludwik Svoboda was baptized by fire, successfully repelling numerous attacks by enemy tanks and infantry. In 1972, a memorial with the Brotherhood in Arms monument was opened, and a large museum with a diorama of the battle in Sokolovo operates. On the anniversary of the battle, the village is often visited by guests from the Czech Republic, historical reconstructions take place.
