The Ternopil-Chernivtsi highway and the strategic railway Brest-Odessa pass through the town of Zalishchyky, which is on the left bank of the Dniester on the border of Bukovina and the Ternopil region. The village of Zaleshchiki was first mentioned in 1578, although it is known that the settlement of Zalesye existed as early as 1340. The current city was founded around 1750, and already in 1766 received the Magdeburg Law. It was owned by the Polish magnates Lubomirski, then the Krakow castellan S. Poniatowski. In 1763 the Church of St. Stanislaus was built. Zalishchyky was famous as a climatic resort with beautiful beaches on the Dniester, as well as a wine-making center.
