Pidvolochys'k

The village of Podvolochisk on the left bank of the river. Zbruch is a regional center 40 km east of Ternopil. It was first mentioned in 1463 as Volochishche - a crossing over the Zbruch. Belonged to Prince V. Zbarazhsky, then Vishnevetsky. In the XVIII century. that part of the village, which was located on the left bank of the river, began to be called Podvolochisk, and Volochisk remained on the right bank. In 1772 Podvolochisk became a part of the Austrian Empire as a border town. The impetus for development was given by the opening of the Podvolochisk - Ternopil - Lviv railway. In 1918-19. the city was controlled by the ZUNR army, then it was captured by Poland. In 1939 Podvolochisk was annexed to Ukraine.
