The small village of Zarvanitsa between Terebovlya, Pidhaitsy and Buchach is the main spiritual center of the Greek Catholics. An ancient legend connects the foundation of the village with the appearance of the Mother of God in a dream to a Kiev monk who happened to be in these parts. Waking up, he found the source and the icon of the Virgin Mary. The place where he was "zarval" (ie, overcame) the dream, the monk named Zarvanitsa. Over time, a monastery arose here.
