Staryi Skalat

The village of Stary Skalat is located 20 km south-west of Podvolochisk, next to Skalat. The date of foundation is considered to be 1295. The settlement began to be called Old Skalat after in the 16th century. the present Skalat was founded nearby. The Church of St. Cosma and Damian (1643), where the grandfather of the outstanding Ukrainian director and theorist of theater L. Kurbas served, has survived. Also preserved is the church of Bl. Yakov Strepa (1910-12). Nearby is the Holy Mountain with a source of healing water. On the mountain are the Church of the Holy Spirit (1878) and the Church of St. Joseph (XIX century).

Село Старий Скалат розташоване в 20 км на північний захід від Підволочиська, поруч зі Скалатом. Датою заснування вважається 1295 рік. Старим Скалатом поселення почало називатися після того, як в XVI ст. неподалік був заснований нинішній Скалат. Збереглася церква Св. Косьми і Даміана (1643 р.), в якій служив дід видатного українського режисера та теоретика театру Л. Курбаса. Також зберігся костел бл. Якова Стрепи (1910-12 рр.). Поруч знаходиться Свята Гора з джерелом цілющої води. На горі розташовані церква Свтого Духа (1878 р.) та костел Св. Йосипа (XIX ст.).
