Kupyansk

City on the river. Oskol 115 km east of Kharkov. Cossack settlement Kupyanka was founded in 1655 at the confluence of the river of the same name into Oskol by immigrants from the Right-Bank Ukraine. To protect against the raids of the Tatars, a fortress was built on the hill. From 1779 Kupyanka became a district town and soon turned into a large trade center. In the XIX century. industry began to develop. The Nikolaevskaya Church (1852), the Zemstvo Council (now the House of Culture) and other old buildings of the historic center have been preserved. There is a museum of local lore.

Місто на річці Оскол в 115 км на схід від Харкова. Козацька слобода Куп'янка була заснована в 1655 році переселенцями з Правобережної України на місці при впадінні однойменної річки в Оскол. Для захисту від набігів татар на пагорбі було споруджено фортецю. З 1779 року Куп'янка стала повітовим містом і незабаром перетворилася на великий торговий центр. В XIX ст. в місті почала розвиватися промисловість. Збереглася Миколаївська церква (1852 р.), земська управа (нині будинок культури) та інші старі будівлі історичного центру. Працює краєзнавчий музей.
