The ancient city of Izium is located on the river. Siversky Donets, between Kharkiv and Donetsk. It is assumed that during the time of Ancient Rus there was a ferry called "Izyum Climb". In 1111, the squads led by Prince Volodimir Monomakh defeated the Polovtsi here, and in 1185, before the campaign, Prince Igor Svyatoslavich was camped. Later, "Izyum Shlyakh", one of the routes of the Tatars' raids, passed here ("Izyum-Kurgan" - a long mountain). A Rus settlement appeared in 1571, and the Izyum Fortress was built in the next century. Since 1865, the Izyum regiment, formed from the Cossacks, was located here.
