The village of Olenivka is located next to the Kiyv-Moscow highway, 10 km from Borzna. The first written mention is dated 1671. In 1847 the poet T. Shevchenko visited Olenivka. The village of Olenivka is the last place of residence of the Ukrainian writer P. Kulish. In 1876 he settled on the Motronivka farm with his wife Hanna Barvinok. Here is their grave. In 1999 the Gannina Desert Museum-Reserve was opened. The restored writer manor house on the bank of the pond harmoniously fits into the modern village. Near Olenшvka, two settlements of the Bronze Age (II millennium BC) were discovered.
