Novoselytsia

The town of Novoselitsa on the river. Prut and Rokytnyanka are located 25 km east of Chernivtsi. It was first mentioned in 1456 as Shishkovtsy, a staging post on the trade route from Galich to Berlad on the Danube. There was also an old wooden church, but in 1858, when the eastern part of Novoselytsia withdrew from Bessarabia to Russia, a new stone Orthodox church of St. George was built in its place.
