The village of Shestovitsa is located on the right bank of the river. Desna near the bypass road of Chernigov (highway E-95 (M-01)). It was first mentioned in 1523 as a town with fortifications from the times of Ancient Rus. The Shestovitsy archaeological complex at ur. "Kovel" (IX-XIII centuries), consisting of a settlement, a hem and a burial mound, which are not mentioned in the annals. A fortress located here with a Varangian garrison guarded the southwestern approaches to Chernigov (Scandinavian burials were discovered). The current name of the village is most likely later, and is associated with the Chernigov boyar clan of the Shestovitsky. Annually in June in Shestovitsa the festival of Slavic-Varangian culture and historical fencing "Korovel" takes place.
